Meet the Owner: Shawn Gavin
Hello! My name is Shawn Gavin, and I am the proud owner of SWS Childcare LLC. I became a parent at 16 and a grandmother at 33, giving me over 41 years of hands-on experience nurturing and caring for children. My journey into childcare began out of necessity — I dropped out of school because there was no one to care for my daughter. Through that experience, I learned firsthand how vital it is for families to have access to safe, loving, and dependable childcare.
I earned my GED in 2005 and went on to complete my Associate Degree in 2016. SWS Childcare opened its doors in 2019. When COVID-19 changed the educational landscape, I continued my work with Akron Public Schools, serving four years in the Early Learning Program at North High School. My time there deepened my understanding of early education and strengthened my commitment to quality care.
I began SWS as a Type B provider, quickly growing into a Type A program and earning a Gold Star rating in less than two years. My “why” is simple — there is nothing more rewarding than watching a child’s eyes light up when they master a new skill, tie their shoes, or finally understand something that once felt impossible.
Every day, I strive to be a steady, reassuring presence that helps children feel safe enough to explore, make mistakes, and celebrate every small (but huge!) victory. To me, early education is about more than academics — it’s about sprinkling kindness, curiosity, and joy into the world, one tiny human at a time.

Program Options
We offer full-time and part-time enrollment (two days per week) as well as after school care and transportation.
Meals Included
Breakfast: 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM
Morning Snack: 11:00 AM – 11:30 AM
Lunch: 11:15 AM – 12:15 PM
Afternoon Snack: 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Dinner: 6:00 PM
Payment Options
Accepted payment options include cash, private pay, or state subsidy programs (like Title 20 and choice voucher).
